Following Jesus is more than knowing the right things, showing up to church on Sundays, or identifying with a religion. It's a daily decision to trust Him with your whole life and it changes everything!

Most of us have felt it at some point — a sense that something isn't quite right. That we're not who we want to be. That the things we chase don't satisfy the way we thought they would. That our relationships, even the good ones, leave us wanting something more.
That feeling isn't an accident. The Bible tells us that every person was created for a relationship with God — and that relationship has been broken. Not because God walked away, but because we did. Every time we've chosen to live life on our own terms, ignored what we knew was right, or hurt someone else in the pursuit of what we wanted — that's what the Bible calls sin. And sin creates a gap between us and God.
"For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard." Romans 3:23

The hard truth is that we can't fix that gap on our own. No amount of being a good person, going to church, or trying harder closes it. The gap is real — and we need help.
Here's where the story changes. The same God that we walked away from didn't leave us there. He loved us too much to let the gap stay permanent.
God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to do what none of us could do on our own. Jesus lived a perfect life — never sinful, never selfish — and then willingly took the punishment that our sin deserved. He died on a cross, was buried, and three days later rose from the dead. Not as a symbol. Not as a metaphor. It actually happened.
That moment — the death and resurrection of Jesus — is the hinge point of all of human history. It's the bridge over the gap. Salvation isn't something you earn. It's something you receive. God did the heavy lifting — all of it. What He asks from us is simply to accept the gift.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

Following Jesus isn't a religion. It's not about cleaning up your act, saying the right things, or checking boxes on Sunday morning. It's a decision to trust Jesus with your whole life — who you are, what you do, and where you're headed.
The Bible describes it as two things working together: belief and repentance. Belief means trusting that Jesus is who He said He is — that He died for your sin and rose from the dead. Repentance means turning away from living life on your own terms and choosing to follow His instead. It's not about being perfect. It's about pointing your life in a new direction.
If you've never made that decision and you want to — you can do it right now. There's no special formula. Just an honest conversation with God. Here's a simple prayer to get you started:
"God, I know I've lived life on my own terms and that has separated me from you. I believe Jesus died for my sin and rose from the dead. I'm turning away from my old way of living and choosing to follow you. Thank you for forgiving me and making me new. Amen."
If you just prayed that — or if you want to talk to someone about what this means — we'd love to hear from you.
Deciding to follow Jesus is the beginning — not the finish line. Here are four practical next steps to help you get started on this new journey.
One of the best things you can do after deciding to follow Jesus is tell someone about it. A friend, a family member, or someone at Grace. Saying it out loud makes it real — and it gives someone the chance to walk this journey with you.
Baptism is the first public step of following Jesus. It's how you declare to everyone around you that your old life is behind you and your new life has begun. If you've decided to follow Jesus, baptism is your next move.
The Bible is how God speaks to us. Starting in the book of John is a great first step — it tells the story of Jesus' life and is written for someone exploring faith for the first time. We have resources to help you get started.
Following Jesus was never meant to be a solo journey. Getting connected to a community group at Grace is one of the most important things you can do. It's where real relationships are built and real growth happens.
Following Jesus raises real questions — and that's a good thing. Here are some resources to help you work through them, and a direct way to connect with someone at Grace if you want to talk it through in person.
If you're wrestling with questions about God, the Bible, or what it means to be a Christian — you're not alone. These resources are a great place to start working through some of the most common barriers people face.
