Message Notes:
God rarely calls people when they feel strong. He often calls them when they’re tired, hiding, and just trying to survive.
By Judges 6, Israel is no longer losing battles — they’re losing the freedom to live freely.Midian has worn them down completely.
Israel hides, starves, and finally cries out to the Lord. God sends a prophet to call them to repentance and then raises up a deliverer.
Judges 6:1–10 (NLT)
That deliverer is Gideon:
Afraid
Hiding in a winepress
Under-resourced
Convinced his past disqualifies him
God does not wait for Midian to leave. He calls Gideon out of survival mode.
Transition
God’s first words to Gideon are not correction, but calling:
“The LORD is with you, mighty hero.”
Judges 6:12 (NLT)
Not because Gideon is impressive — but because God is present.
What if the season you think disqualifies you is the season God is calling you?God does not call Gideon out of strength, but out of fear, scarcity, and hiding.
Point 1 — God Defines Our Identity, Not Our Past
Gideon is hiding, yet God calls him a “mighty hero.”
Judges 6:11–12 (NLT)
God names Gideon by .Calling comes before confidence.
potential, not performance
Most of us don’t doubt God’s power — we doubt whether He can use us.
God’s calling establishes your identity, not your history.
Truth:
Point 2 — God Guarantees the Outcome, Not Our Ability
Gideon responds with logic, excuses, and comparisons.
Judges 6:13–15 (NLT)
What sounds like humility is actually self-reliance.He assumes God’s work depends on his resources.
But God wants , not competence.
dependence
“I will be with you.”
Judges 6:16 (NLT)
Your success depends on , not who you are.
who you’re with
“My power works best in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT)
Your past explains where you are — it does not determine where God is taking you.
Point 3 — God Values Obedience, Not Confidence
“Go with the strength you have.”
Judges 6:14 (NLT)
God does not wait for Gideon to feel ready. He simply calls him to obey.
Faith often looks like:
Moving while afraid
Obeying while unsure
Going with less than you wish you had
Confidence is not the evidence of faith.
Obedience is.
What Every Believer Is Called To

Follow Jesus
— Matthew 28:19
Live on Mission
— 1 Peter 1:15
Live Clean
— Ephesians 2:10
Live Your Unique Calling
Application & Closing
The good works God planned for you are waiting on obedience.
Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)
You don’t invent your calling — you discover it one obedient step at a time.
God doesn’t say:
“Come back when you’re braver.”
“Come back when you’re stronger.”
He says: “Go with the strength you have.”
Not the strength you want. The strength you have.
You don’t need to believe in yourself. You need to trust the One who has called you.
The same grace that calls us while we’re hiding is the grace that saves us when we cannot rescue ourselves.
